Months later, Larry and Vivian ran into each other on the sidewalk, an utterly random event. He invited her out to dinner, just to talk or whatever. Would be great to chat again. Be friends. She agreed.

However, after tipping the maître de for a table by the fireplace, then sitting there forty-five minutes, checking his phone every three seconds like some loser dickhead fuckstain, he got the hint she wasn’t showing. He paid the waiter for his wine and walked outside.

While waiting for a cab, a putrid-smelling shirtless man staggered over to Larry and asked him for change. Larry reached inside his wallet and gave him everything he had. The man shuffled away with his head hung. Didn’t even say thank you.
